The Inverell High School Open Boys Touch team has qualified for the NSW CHS Top 10 Final Series for the seventh year in a row.
The Inverell High team defeated Sydney team, Sarah Redfern High School, nine tries to 4 in the inter-regional final played at the Inverell Sports Complex recently.
After a great start to the game, the Inverell team scored two tries in the first five minutes of play and lead the Sydney South West champions 4-nil at half time.
The second half was a much closer battle with the highly reputable Redfern side matching the talented Inverell High team try for try.
With solid defence and superior skills, the Inverell High boys team took out the second half five tries to four, comfortably winning their way through to the final series.
Try scorers were Brendan Campbell (2), Cameron Toomey (2), Alex Lavender, Nick Monkton, Haydn Wilkins, Peter Saunders and Harley Lane.
Coach Andrew Thomas was pleased with the effort of the team.
“While Peter Saunders, Cameron Toomey and Alex Lavender had great games, it was a fantastic team effort,” he said.
“The even spread of tries across the team demonstrated the cohesion this team hopes to carry through to the final series”.
The CHS State Finals will be held in Gosford on August 25 and 26.
Previous best results for the Inverell High team include second place in 2004, with the current team looking forward to upholding the tradition set by previous Inverell High School open boys teams.
