Auskick kids enjoy a day of competition

THE Inverell Auskick Centre’s participants recently travelled to Tamworth for the town’s local Gala Day.

We were blessed with a beautiful day, which was perfect for football,” co-ordinator Marian Benfield said.

“The atmosphere at No. 1 Oval was that of a carnival.

“There were plenty of activities and lots of spectators enjoying the footy on display.”

Inverell boasted two teams on the day – the under 10s and under 12s.

“Both sides played very well … and it is fantastic to see the improvement in their confidence and skill level since the Armidale Gala Day,” Benfield explained.

The under 12s won all four of its games and, subsequently, were named the champion team.

The under 10s snared two victories, from four matches, and showed they are gradually improving as well.

“The emphasis of Auskick is on having fun and participation, learning new skills and meeting new friends,” Benfield said.

“With this philosophy in mind, Tamworth co-ordinator David Stones organised a fantastic day.

“To fill in the time between games, there were plenty of activities, from skills sessions, handball and goal competitions.

“The national sponsor of Auskick, NAB, handed out prizes too.

“David, Monique and the team are to be congratulated.”

Inverell will host the final Gala Day for the year on Saturday, August 16, at Varley Oval.
