TEN Northhaven Recycling Centre employees have completed a 12-week waste management training course.
The course, developed by New England Institute of TAFE, was the second for Northaven, with 12 students completing the training in November last year.
Both courses were funded through Department of Education and Training Special Skills Programs and incorporate units from the nationally accredited waste management training package.
The topics covered included occupational health and safety, emergency procedures, environmental management, understanding the industry and teamwork.
Course coordinator Linda Lewis said one of the aims of the training program was to broaden the understanding of the resource recovery industry and the important role employees and organisations, such as Northhaven play now and in the future.
“The training was successful, not only because of the students, but also the support the Northhaven staff.
“With a growing number of waste management trainees from regional councils and industry, and the future potential for the resource recovery industry, New England Institute is expanding and diversifying waste management and sustainability programs, and is keen to support initiatives within the region and beyond.”
