JANET Makepeace is a powerhouse of artistic production.
Her pottery amazes, as do her charcoal sketches and paintings.
But where does it all end? It simply doesn’t.
This turbine of talent also creates patchwork quilts and the most amazing mosaics.
Now, there would be many artists that take bits and pieces of glass or ceramic and create wonderful designs. But how many make their own pieces from scratch-literally! Janet forms the pieces from clay, glazes them and then pieces them together to create wonders like that pictured.
Having “pottered” for 30 odd years, she was inspired by the mosaic form of art when she visited Tasmania and saw, at a museum, an ancient Syrian mosaic made from stone.
“I thought that maybe I could do something like that using clay,” she said.
From bag of clay to spectacular mosaic, she has achieved exactly that.
Creating 2mm thick pieces at one centimetre wide, colouring the pieces, or using their natural hue, she has now completed a myriad of designs.
They vary from traditional to more abstract and modern designs.
